What is Fifty-move rule in chess?

A draw can be claimed if 50 moves pass with no pawn move and no capture.

The fifty-move rule prevents games from going on forever in positions where one side has extra material but cannot force checkmate. It is most relevant in complex endgames like bishop-and-knight versus lone king.
