What is Algebraic notation in chess?
The standard system for recording chess moves using piece letters and square coordinates.
In algebraic notation, each square is named by its file letter (a-h) and rank number (1-8). A move like Nf3 means 'knight to f3.' Standard Algebraic Notation (SAN) is used in almost all modern chess books, apps, and databases.
