What is Brilliancy in chess?
A spectacular, usually unexpected sacrifice or combination that is objectively sound and aesthetically striking.
Brilliancies are the highlight moves of chess history - queen sacrifices, stunning long-range moves, or beautiful mating nets that seem impossible at first glance but are perfectly calculated. Tournaments sometimes award brilliancy prizes for the best such move.
